“Fish Dinner”

While my family was enjoying Disney World, I decided to explore nature several miles away. I found this small nature center for school children open to the public on weekends. As I was standing on the dock watching some playful otters, someone yelled look. As I swung around there was a anhinga just braking the water surface with a large sunfish across it’s beak. It through the fish up and caught it just as the picture shows. I was lucky enough to get a picture as it can up with the fish, then as it was swallowing the fish, and one of a big bulge in its neck. Preparation meets opportunity! This picture won a prize in the county fair.

Interesting captures and blog! I initially noticed your “anhinga vs fish” shot here. That looks like a big fish (do you know what kind?) staring down its captor’s throat! So could the bird rally manage to win the struggle and gulp that whole thing down entirely okay??

Does the prey put up a good fight, if eaten, does the unlucky fish get swallowed wriggling all the way as well?!
